House Hunting with a Realtor

For Fun, Real Estate

So I’ve been a realtor for a few months now, and I am really enjoying it.  I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great buyers, list some nice homes for sale, and check out what’s behind the front doors of all those homes I used to drive by and oogle.

However, I’ve been suffering from some serious side effects due to this change in career – the biggest one being falling in love with homes all over town when our own house is far from ready to sell!  So instead of making any rash real estate decisions, I thought I’d share my favorite finds with you.

I’m sticking with what I know (Northwest Arkansas) for now, but hopefully my house-crashing friends out in blogland can appreciate pretty houses, no matter where they are!  :)  Without further ado, here are a couple of my favorite homes on the market today.  Click on the address to see more photos and a description of these homes.

808 Fritz Drive ($265,000)

A downtown beauty, this home has been almost completely updated.  You get modern conveniences and finishes in a historic beautiful home.  Doesn’t get much better than that!

<>

1008 East Trust Street ($595,000)

This was the first home ever built by the architect Fay Jones, famous in our area for his mid-century modern designs.  It has been recently remodeled and boasts great views!

<>

1400 West Cleveland ($349,900)

Anyone who was a student at the University of Arkansas will probably recognize this iconic yellow house.  It has always been one of my favorites and is so well maintained.  Maybe we can make it ours *next time* it’s up for sale!

So what do you think of my picks?  You can probably tell by the properties I selected that we tend to like old and updated rather than brand-spankin’ new around the Heard household.  Stephen and I would love for our next home to be one with a great history and within walking distance of all the downtown Fayetteville attractions, but for now I’m content just showing and selling these beauties!

Crafts, For Fun

Hi everybody!  I’m doing my best to get back into a schedule and some good habits, now that I’m into the swing of my new job.  Setting up my email, getting business cards, taking classes, and starting up a facebook page and website for my new career as a Realtor has taken away some blogging time as of late.

I did manage to stop by one of my favorite local thrift stores the other day though, and check out what I found!

I actually picked up two of these lampshade frames for $2.50 each for a little project I’m working on in our master bedroom.  I just need to order a few more supplies and hopefully I’ll have a fun DIY project to share soon!

(Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten our promise to reveal the studio trim color.  It’s coming soon!)

What's the deal, Big Lots?

 Dear Big Lots,

You have disappointed me.  I have long been impressed by your prices, and lately you’ve become my secret back-up place to find trendy things on the cheap.  I’ve come to you for fun yellow bowls and flowery candleholders, for cute white vases and $19 area rugs.

But yesterday was a different story.  Yesterday I saw this:

You threw me for a loop, Big Lots.  One look at this adorable modern ottoman and I was hooked.  I was so excited, picturing this at the foot of our bed in our master bedroom, that I even texted a picture to Stephen and said “I’m in love!”

Then I saw the price tag.  $199.  One hundred and 99 dollars?!  I was expecting $50 or $80.  You know, like the prices on everything else in your store.  Heck, you sell cute chairs for $99, but an ottoman goes for twice that much?

What’s the deal, Big Lots?  You built me up with your low, low prices and then you let me down.  My ottoman-loving heart is officially broken.

Sincerely,

Girl on a Budget

For Fun, For Sale

Oh my goodness!  I just came across earringsnation’s Etsy shop, and just look at the cute necklace they have for sale:

They actually have several cute vintage pieces, but you all know I’ve got a thing for Hooters owls. :)

That is all.

Musical Trash to Treasure

Before and After, For Fun, What a Steal

Hi everybody!  How was your weekend?  Ours was good, although busy.  I finished up a personal project I’ve been working on for about a month now – I’ll fill you in on that one later – and Stephen played a show in Eureka Springs with Mike Blackwell on Saturday night.  Our friends Cara and Robby were there, and Stephen’s dad and my mom and brother even made it!

There must have been music in the air this weekend, because today’s before and after project wasn’t something I tackled this weekend… it was a spur-of-the-moment revamp Stephen took on yesterday afternoon.

We were walking Molly around our neighborhood when Stephen noticed something strange out of the corner of his eye.  Just peeking out of the trash bin in front of somebody’s house was this guitar!

I’m pretty sure Stephen just said “I found a guitar,” snatched it out of the trash, and took off power-walking down the road.  It was hilarious!

Judging from the wear and the construction, he figures this guitar was probably made in the 70s.  It was in perfectly good condition (for being in the trash!), just a little dirty and missing its strings.

We brought it home and within minutes Stephen was dusting it off and vacuuming it out.

He removed the old tuning knobs and replaced them with a set from his first acoustic guitar that had seen better days…

(Poor old girl)

This required some drilling to make the new tuning knobs fit.

Some used strings, borrowed from his old guitar, and our dumpster diving find was ready for a test drive!

I think Stephen was plesantly surprised how well this guitar played with a little TLC.  Isn’t it funny how one man’s trash truly is another man’s treasure?

For Fun, Home Decor

I came upon a fun little tool today called Polyvore at the Elements of Style blog.  I’ve seen other people use this tool to put together outfits before, but after some poking around, I figured out you can use it to make room mock-ups and mood boards as well!

Sounded like the perfect tool for me (with my lack of Photoshop skills), so I decided to try it out.  Here’s my first mock-up of one little corner in our living room.

If you ever want to see what different items would look like together in a room (or on you), I’d recommend checking Polyvore out.  My favorite part is that the site automatically crops out white backgrounds so you can layer items like I did above.  Have fun and enjoy the weekend!

Who says I can’t watch a movie at 1 in the afternoon on my day off? Huh?

Thanks for all the moral support, girls!  Glad I’m not the only one with a guilty pleasure =)

High of 67 degrees today and the flowers are blooming! Would you believe me if I told you we’re supposed to get snow this weekend?! I guess I’d better enjoy the blooms while they last!
